Comics with Dan Daily | Energon Universe - 01/28/2026

Hey everyone!

I decided that since I spend a lot of time thinking about comics, but have very little time to talk about them or record myself talking about them, that I would start a sort of daily column/newsletter where I just kind of throw things against the wall and see what sticks. This isn't meant to be some big, insightful thing, or take a ton of time to read - because I don't have a ton of time to write it! I'll just write a little bit, have a Recommended Read of the Day, and see how it goes!

I love the Energon Universe. I remember messaging my LCS owner on the day Void Rivals #1 came out and asking him to throw one in my file. I had heard the rumors of a Transformer appearing but truly I just thought the premise sounded interesting and had fairly recently read The Walking Dead for the first time. The rest is history, I guess!

I've pulled all the main titles in single issues since day 1 and have the trades for Duke, Cobra Commander, and Destro (still need Scarlett!). It's such a nice blend of intertwined but self-sustaining - read as much or as little as you'd like! I will say that Transformers doesn't quite do it for me the way the first few arcs did, but its still quality art and I have faith that Kirkman will take the story where it needs to go.

The biggest surprise/winner from all this is Josh Williamson. He is on an absolute roll between G.I. Joe and his seemingly endless DC work - and all of it is standard fare at worst, incredibly exciting at best.

If you want to dive in, they started making these gorgeous deluxe hardcovers that contain 12 issues a pop.

They look so good that I am strongly considering double dipping.
