The term crossover will elicit different reactions from different comic fans. Some look at them as money grabs with a thousand variant covers, others see them as good fun where their favorite characters meet. I think fans of things that are fun and good have a specific crossover that comes to mind that is specifically impactful for them. For me, I didn't read comics growing up so I don't have something from my childhood, but I have always loved the 90s DC-Marvel crossover. The battles between the characters, the amalgamation of characters at the end in the Amalgam Universe- just two comic powerhouses doing what they do best - entertaining.
While I don't have a crossover from my childhood, the one from my kids' childhood will be the DC x Sonic the Hedgehog crossover - my house is covered with pictures of Shadow as Batman or Sonic as Flash. And then they create their own crossovers: Sonic and Pokémon was the latest that was pretty interesting.
With there being a revival of DC and Marvel crossovers lately, I'm excited to see where they take things. I've always thought the potential of the two companies working together is too great to leave on the sidelines. Imagine the possibilities in film/television; Spider-Man swinging into frame in Gotham City. Superman turning around to see Homelander looming over him.
What's your favorite crossover? Or do you not subscribe to that Big 2 slop? Let me know!
